Sealing joints and cracks that are subject to movement in concrete with Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC

Print

Whether you are a Building Professional, Construction Specialist, Trades Person or Architect, one of the factors you must prioritise in any project is effectively sealing joints and cracks – especially those that are subject to future movement in concrete, prefabricated materials and ceramic elements.

Sealing up cracks and joints prevents the ingress of water, chemicals and other foreign materials, protecting surfaces against deterioration and further damage.

In doing so, it’s also easier to maintain the appearance of surfaces.

If you’re looking for the right product to use when it comes to preparing for surface movement, then you’ve come at the right place.

At Scientific Waterproofing Products (SWP), our Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC is ideal for sealing joints and cracks in concrete, pre-cast elements, mortars, bricks and other porous surfaces.

We’ve compiled everything you need to know about this product in a concise way.

About Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC

MAXJOlNT ELASTlC is a two-component product:

  1. Component A is a liquid based on special synthetic resins.
  2. Component B is supplied in powder form as a mortar-based mixture of cements, additives and special aggregates.

When both components are mixed, an elastomeric product with high bond strength is created to seal joints and cracks in concrete and other porous surfaces.

3 benefits Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC offers

SWP has an extensive range of cement-based waterproofing products for all your project’s maintenance and restoration requirements, including Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC.

Our solutions are scientifically designed not just to deal with excess moisture and unwanted water infiltration, but also to strengthen your surfaces and make them functional in the long run.

With this in mind, here are the three key benefits Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC delivers:

  • Flexible and convenient to use

Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC can be used to seal active cracks in concrete and masonry, as well as joints of concrete prefabricated ceramic in facades and building construction. It also serves as non-slump option on vertical joints.

Aside from the ease of application and finish it offers, Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC is known for being non-toxic, non-flammable and environmentally friendly. Once cured, you can easily coat it over using MAXSEAL FLEX or paint it with your desired colour.

  • Anticipates and addresses possible movements in your permanent formwork or surfaces

One of the application fields of Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC is sealing expansion joints with an in-service joint movement of up to 15%.

This means that Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC can be used on porous substrates subject to movement. Any missing mortar can also be replaced if movement is required.

  • Very high weather resistant and durability

You can rely on Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC to withstand extreme weather conditions, as well as negative and positive pressure. In fact, this product is suitable for joints in permanent contact with water.

On top of this, Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC offers excellent adhesion on damp surfaces and green concrete, requiring no bonding agent. You can also use Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC for sealing permanent immersion in pipelines, water reservoirs, water treatment plants, concrete water tanks and more.

How to use Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC

To help you achieve excellent results from Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC, we’ve prepared a set of instructions and reminders that can assist you as you use our product in your construction projects.

Preparation

Before applying our concrete joint sealer, you must clean the surface from any traces of paint, efflorescence, loose particles, dust, etc.

Mixing

You will get two components – component A (resin) and component B (powder). You have to pour component A and component B into a container. Afterwards, mix it at low speed using a mixing drill until you can no longer observe any lumps in the mixture.

Application

Thoroughly wet the substrate with water, removing any ponding.

Next, prime the wet substrate with a small amount of component A (resin) before applying Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC mixture using a trowel or putty knife.

Then, you can smooth the surface with soaped water. Just remember that it’s essential to avoid any bubble formation inside the filled joint.

Precautions to keep in mind

  • Never apply this expansion joint sealing treatment when the temperature drops below 5ºC.
  • Similarly, you shouldn’t use Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC on frosted or frozen surfaces at all.
  • Furthermore, don’t add cement, water or any other substances that are not specified in the brochure to the mixture.

It’s time to incorporate Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC into your projects

Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC enables you to seal expansion joints and cracks so that water won’t find it’s way in to erode your project’s concrete slabs.

Equipped with Drizoro MAXJOINT® ELASTIC, you can preserve and make your concrete surfaces functional today and far into the future.
